DIY Yoga Mat Cleaner

* This gorgeous mat is from Yoga Design Lab

How often do you clean your yoga mat? This might be something that we don’t think of very often. But if you actually take a minute to ponder – your yoga mat is full of bacteria. It’s pretty disgusting, haha. The moment I realized that I whipped up a Yoga Mat Spray to bring with me to class or when I practice at home. The recipe below is for a non-toxic DIY yoga mat cleaning spray made with essential oils that you can use each time you step off the mat until the next time you practice.

What you’ll need:
A 4oz glass spray bottle
Distilled water (3/4 of the spray bottle)
1 drop of lavender (promotes a calming environment, will relax your mind, and can ease tension)
3 drops of an antibacterial and antifungal oil, such as:
– Tea Tree (It’ll even deodorize and disinfectant the air around you, not just your mat. This oil is powerful at killing off gross bacteria)
– Lemon (I love to use lemon for pretty much everything. Not only is it antibacterial and antifungal oil, it’ll also lift your mood, support digestion, and can increase energy and focus)
– Eucalyptus (Not only will it keep germs away, it will also promote clear and deep breathing, provide respiratory support, and is already used in most relaxing environments like the spa)
Top off with alcohol-free witch hazel (1/4 of the spray bottle)

Drop in all of your oils and mix in the witch hazel into your spray bottle. (You’ll want the alcohol-free witch hazel, because it won’t be as drying to your hair + scalp.)

How to use:
Shake well before use
Spray on your yoga mat immediately after you finish your practice
Wipe your yoga mat with a clean towel
Flip over and repeat
Hang your yoga mat to dry
